Summer is for... nature study
A conversation with Nicole Williams about keeping nature study joyful
We are enjoying days of endless sun, bare feet, and a few scrapes that come with free play. My youngest had a strider accident earlier this week that took us to the dentist to make sure he hadn’t done permanent damage. He’s fine, but this is one of the things we must be willing to accept when we allow our children the freedom to roam, play and be outside.
We are finding it more essential than ever to get our children outside and do the work it takes to learn the names of creation and study nature intentionally because the digital world is forever calling as a Siren beckoning us to stop using our bodies and stare.
I chatted with Nicole Williams, a long-time homeschool mom and Charlotte Mason educator about the challenges of doing Nature Study consistently. She has created a fabulous nature study resource for families (that you can grab here).
Our conversation included tips for getting started, normal challenges and how to overcome them, and what to do to help high schoolers engage with nature.
